How to get to Aveiro

How to get to Aveiro

From Porto's Airport:

Step1: Take the Subway to the Train Station

At the airport you have a subway line called "E line" that goes from the stop Airport direction Estádio do Dragão-and leaves at the stop Campanhã (where there is a train station). To travel by subway you should get the Andante card that can be purchased at every Andante machine, like the one at the left.

Single Travel Ticket: Z4 (1,70 €)

Validador Cartão Andante.jpgIMPORTANT: You must validate your ticket before you get into the subway, otherwise you might be fined (100 x the ticket price ). You should hold your Andante in front of a validating machine. If you have credits in your card, a green light will light up, as well the time that you still have on that credit and the remaining credits left on your Andante.

Information on subway prices and timetables are available at www.metrodoporto.pt/en/n.

Step2: Take the train to Aveiro

At Campanhã stop, as you leave the subway, you will the train station right at your side. Take a train to Aveiro. It takes between 30 minutes and 1h15,  depending on the type of train used. You have three types of trains:

Suburbano.JPG

  • Alfa Pendular (€19.50/€14.00 – 00:34h)
  • Intercidades (€12.50/€11.50 – 00:39h)
  • Suburbano (€3.35 – 00:48/01:09h)

Suburbano trains (like the one on the picture at the right) are the cheapest ones, and they are still nice trains, and the most used to travel between Porto and Aveiro. Additionally, if you tke this train, you will not have to worry about getting out at the correct station, as Aveiro is the last stop!  To get your tickets, you can either go to the balcony and ask for one, or get one from the machines (see the left picture below):

To check the available timetables, you can access the Railway Company's website at www.cp.pt. First, switch to english version (there is a little square with the english flag on the top of the screen). Then, click on Timetables and Prices, under the Menu CP on the left side of the screen. A timetable search engine, like the one on the picture above on the right, will appear.

Have a safe trip!
